An introduction to beekeeping with Hannah Reeves, professional beekeeper, who manages the apiary at Tewin Orchard Nature Reserve.
This one day workshop will give you an overview of the craft of beekeeping. The 5 hour course will begin by spending the morning in local pub the Rose and Crown, learning the basic theory of beekeeping, looking at the equipment and discussing the role of the beekeeper.
After a delicious pub lunch, the afternoon will be spent in the orchard’s apiary with a session of practical beekeeping. We will finish by tasting a selection of local honeys.
This course will provide a basis of understanding of what is involved in becoming a beekeeper and whether this is a hobby you wish to pursue. Protective beekeeping suits and gloves will be provided.
This event can also be purchased as a gift experience voucher through the Trust’s Wildlife Shop.
Please note if you have any mobility requirements – the ground in the orchard is uneven and the afternoon session will be spent standing.
We will require all attendees to complete a questionnaire and waiver before attending the workshop.
If the weather is inclement (high winds or heavy rain) then the course may be postponed.
Refunds will be given up to 14 days before the event (less £5 admin fee).
No refunds within 14 days.
Suitable for beginners – adults only
£59 per person including lunch
We attend Apple Day every year to sell our honeys, honeycomb and candles, including honey from the Orchard itself. We will have a stall inside Tewin Orchard where you can taste a selection of honeys and ask us any bee-related questions you have.
Always a popular event, Apple Day is a great day out with lots of local food and crafts, activities, and walks around the nature reserve. Parking is available by the cricket pitch across the road.
